英国からの贈りもの（Christmas Gift from England）
この冬、新しい歌集（左）を出版したJoyさんから待降節にクリスマス・プレゼントが届きました。心に灯を燈してくれるキャンドルと柊のカード、木の温もりあふれる十字架、日々の祈りの本、そして、桜咲く教会の栞です。栞の裏には、祈りの本はお祖母さまの作だと記されていました。
Joy McCall, my bosom friend, a tanka poet who has just published her book with Denis Garrisonsent me a wonderful Christmas present at the beginning of Advent:A Christmas card that light up my mind,a daily prayer book,a hawthorn cross, anda bookmark of a church surrounded by cherry blossoms.The back of the bookmark says that the little red book was produced by her grandmother,Mrs. L.G.D.Welander.
栞の裏の文字に気づいたのは待降節第２週でした。桜の花に心を奪われて、表ばかり見ていたのです。気づかせてくれたのは、祈りの本のその日の頁でした。「顧みられることのない片隅に、貴方が置いてくださった美しきものへ私の心を開いてください」（2ー３行目）
It was the second week of Advent thatI noticed handwritten letters on the back of the bookmark.It was the prayer for that day which showed me her writing.

贈り物の包みがポストに届いていたまさにその日、彼女のために選んだ天使のカードと聖母子の色紙です。

メールのやり取りから、十字架も手作りと分かりました。荒野で野生馬と暮らすご友人が落枝でこさえたそうです。まるで『嵐が丘』や『秘密の花園』の世界ですね！
According to her mail,her charming friend who lives with the wild ponies on the moorgathered fallen wood and made that cross with tree's warmth.
