サンタクロースの日（Santa Claus day ☼♫♥•°*）
奈良基督教会 The Nara Episcopal Church（2011）
興福寺南円堂のお隣に立つ、クリスマスムードいっぱいの、この寺社風の建物は何でしょう。み仏の都、奈良の興福寺旧境内に、和風の教会、奈良基督教会があります。明治時代、洋風の教会堂は奈良公園の景観にそぐわない、と認められなかったので、このようなお堂が建てられることになりました。設計したのは、郡山藩の棟梁出身で宮大工の大木吉太郎、彼はキリスト教信者でもありました。
What is this building like a Buddhist temple decorated with a Christmas wreath in the precincts of Kofuku-ji temple? This is Nara Episcopal Church, a church building in Japanese style. In the Meiji era, the Western style church was not adopted in order to protect the typical Japanese landscape of Nara park. This is why such a unique architecture was built, whose designer was a chirstian carpenter specializing in temple, shrine, etc.
昭和5年（1930）に完成したお堂は、和瓦ぶきの屋根に真壁(しんかべ)造り（構造の柱を見せる伝統的工法）の壁面、内部は主に吉野杉や檜を使って数寄屋風に仕上げられました。
パイプオルガン（ドイツ、ウェルナー・ボッシュ社製）は昭和62年（1987）、創立100周年を記念して設置されました。礼拝やコンサートでその深い響きを聴くことができます。
The church building was completed in 1930, roofed with Japanese tiles and having the wall with exposed timber pillars. The interior is in the style of sukiya, an architectural style based on that of the Japanese tea ceremony building.
A German pipe organ of Werner Bosch was installed in 1987, commemorating the 100th anniversary. You can enjoy the profound sounds in Sunday services, concerts, etc.
ステンドグラスではなく、障子から柔らかな冬の光が射しこんできます。ランプには十字架の模様が見えます。聖アグネス教会と同じ聖歌番号表を見つけました。ここも英国国教会の流れを汲む日本聖公会の教会です。この日はサンタクロースの日の二日前でした。
Through the shoji windows instead of stained-glass ones, soft winter light was streaming in. The lamps had cross patterns on them. I found the same number list of hymns as that of St Agnes' Episcopal Church I had visited a week before. This Japanese style church is also an Episcopal one.
祭壇の十字架は、正倉院宝物の意匠を用いた七宝焼です。
The cross in the altar is cloisonne ware with a Shoso-in treasure’ s design.
天平の七宝鏡と十字架の出逢ふ御堂は奈良にのみあり
クリスマス飾りには麦ではなく稲穂があしらわれています。いかにも和様ですね(なんて素敵にジャパネスク！)。よそでは見たことのない、個性的な飾りつけでした。
This Christmas ornament is made of ears of rice instead of wheat. How Japanesque it is! I have never seen this kind of ornament elsewhere.

12月6日はサンタクロースの日。サンタ・クロースとは元は聖ニコラウス、東ローマ帝国の聖人の名前でした。サンタ・ニコラウスをオランダ語読みするとシンタクラース、これがアメリカに伝わってサンタクロースとなりました。聖人の祝日は12月6日、靴下を枕元に置くのも元はこの日です。西洋では聖人の名前をもつ人が多く、ドイツではクラウス、ロシアではニコライとなります。お歳を召したら、白い髭をふさふさ生やすのでしょうか？ (^灬^)

December 6th is Santa Claus day.
The modern figure of Santa Claus is derived from the Dutch figure of Sinterklaas,whose name is a dialectal pronunciation of Saint Nicholas, the historical Greek bishop and gift-giver of Myra. During the Christianization of Germanic Europe, this figure may have absorbed elements of many gods, such as Odin. In Europe, some people have the name Klaus, Nicolai, etc. which derive from Saint Nicholas. (^灬^)
