(The Harvest Moon in 2016)

I catched it ! What ? The full moon walking a tightrope ! The Walk (film) is based on an actual ropewalker, P. Petit. His speech at TED reminded me of the white road to the Pure Land between the water(right bank)and the fire(left bank)where people pass under Amitabha' s guidance.

“On one side the mass of a mountain, a life I know, on the other, the universe of the clouds, so full of unknown that it seems empty to us…. At my feet the path to the North Tower, sixty yards of the wirerope (…) which slacks, which sways (…) ”(Dictation of TED broadcasted on NHK)
Being afraid of heights, snowdrop admires the moon from the ground. September 15th in 2016 falls on the harvest moon on August 15th of the lunar calendar. This year, we can enjoy the beautiful moon of the fifteenth night on 15th of this month.

There is a family crest with the moon-and-bat design. This summer I often saw small bats flying around the morning moon. At first I mistook them for black butterflies. But one day…
(My opening a window at dawn, a small bat flied in and ran across my bed ! !)
(T T)In another morning, a gecko also…)
Studies of Six Bats by John James Audubon (pinterest)
According to an essay of Kushida Magoichi, an American ornithologist, Audubon went through a similar experience.
“One episode was interesting for me (Magoichi) where an odd man visited Audubon at his hut in the woods. At the night when he put the man up, he heard a big noise. Entering the room, he found the guest swinging the host’s precious violin so as to knock down a bat which had flied in.” (Works of Kushida Magoici, vol.7)
(Golden Bat)
In the West, a devil has often the bat’ s wings. But in the East, the bat brings luck because this creature is called “biānfú” in Chinese, whose pronunciation resembles “piānfú” (the luck comes especially to someone). In Japan, it is found in the design of a family crest or of a cigarette brand (Golden Bat, Magoichi' s favorite).
The Moon's surface also is compared to different things from place to place. In Asia including Japan, people find a rabit pounding steamed rice into cake. In China sometimes a crab, in Northern Europe an old lady reading a book, in South America an ass or a crocodile, in Arabia a raoring lion, etc. etc.
Audubon (left) vs Bewick (right)
While J.J. Audubon painted American birds in watercolours, T. Bewick British birds in woodcut. Though they were good friends, their illustrations look different from each other. How about comparing their rabbits on Moon Festival? Added Bonus: Seiho' s rabbits and belle de jour: Peace, not Peace cigarettes !
